ProStar
The ProStar is a highly specified controller: this 15A model is suitable for panel sizes up to 420W on a 24V system.
The charging regime is more sophisticated than the SunSaver models, including an equalising cycle is included to bring individual cells in a battery bank to the same voltage, ensuring maximum battery capacity is maintained.
The ProStar also allows you to select different regulation voltages for gel, sealed and flooded batteries. It includes a low-voltage disconnect feature as standard, and is fully protected against short-circuits, overloads, voltage spikes and even lightning!
ProStar regulators have screw terminals that accept bare wire so no special connectors are needed. Double-insulated FlexSolar cable (red and black) for making connections between the solar panel and regulators is available from Midsummer Energy's cables and connectors page.
Connections are also provided for battery sensing wires, these eliminate any voltage drop in the charging cables ensuring that the charging is as efficient as possible.
For greater charging efficiency, particularly when battery temperature varies by more than 5C throughout the day/year, add a Morningstar remote temperature sensor.
